80% Research 1. Successful candidates will study dietary and microbial regulation of bone and bone marrow adipose tissues in the context of obesity and aging. 2. Functioning independently, the Postdoctoral Researcher will design, organize and conduct highly specialized and advanced experiments using established scientific protocols and procedures and in some cases designing new protocols. 3. Generate and maintain animals needed for your experiments. 4. Collect, prepare and analyze research data; keep a detailed notebook summarizing experiments and recording research data; maintain computer database of research data 5. Tabulate and display data for presentation in research conferences and for manuscript preparation.
20% Lab Management 1. Manage procurement of supplies and equipment and with general maintenance of laboratory. 2. Assume general responsibility for scientific operations of the laboratory 3. Provide supervision and guidance to junior technicians, students, and researchers 4. Assist the PI with protocol/manuscript writing.

Cellular metabolism fuels all biological processes. Metabolic dysfunction underlies the basis of many diseases including obesity, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, inflammation, and aging. Systemic homeostasis is achieved through coordinated metabolic regulation among different cells and multiple tissues & organs. The long-term goal of the Ruan laboratory is to elucidate molecular mechanisms underlying the intercellular communication in metabolic and immune systems.
