The hired individual will join a highly active and fast-paced lab environment and will provide assistance in the maintenance of the lab and animal colonies, and while collaborating with trainees in the Alejandro lab to increase their credentials such as publication record in academic research.
65% will be devoted to work related to the maintenance of the lab and animal husbandry.
35% on running research project (individual or collaboration with other lab members) that is meant to assist the candidate establish a publication record and be competitive for graduate and medical school.
All required qualifications must be documented on application materials
Bachelor’s degree in one of the following areas: biological sciences, biochemistry, molecular biology, or related discipline or a combination of related education and experience to equal four (4) years
Some experience in molecular techniques ( such as western blotting, PCR, qPCR and immunofluorescence imaging)
Willing to work with animals and assist in maintaining the lab (maintaining lab records, waste disposal and equipment maintenance).
Inquisitive, motivated, organized (able to recognize and prioritize work), critical thinker, and responsible.
Must have interest in scientific enquiry, as 35% of effort will be dedicated to research project that is meant to train the individual how to generate hypothesis, perform experiments and present data/results in lab meetings or national meetings.
Experience handling laboratory animals/husbandry
Experience in PCR and genotyping
Strong Organizational skills
Interested in applying to graduate/medical school and looking for a post-bac training. The PI will provide additional mentoring and training needed.
