Job Description Summary
We seek applicants for a Postdoctoral Associate position to perform experiments related to central mechanisms underlying salt sensitive hypertension development. The project is funded by a NIHR01 grant. The work responsibility is to conduct research related to the central nervous system in blood pressure regulation and in gene modifications leading to neuro-cardiovascular deregulation. Work will include the generation and testing of hypothesis using tools such as viral vector mediated gene overexpression or knockdown in hypertensive rat models and in cell cultures.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities (other duties may be assigned)
Generate hypothesis, design experiments, and test the hypothesis Use appropriate software to analyze the results Perform animal surgery Measure rat blood pressure and other cardiovascular function Perform animal study such as metabolism study Withdraw blood and collect animal tissues Train graduate and undergraduate students Attend lab meetings and journal club Present research results at scientific conferences Write research papers and publish in peer-reviewed journals Commit to learning about continuous improvement strategies and applying them to everyday work Apply safety-related knowledge, skills, and practices to everyday work
Have molecular biology and physiology background. Familiar with brain study using rodent models. The applicants should be equipped with cellular and Molecular Biology techniques such as cell culture, real-time PCR, western blot, immunohistochemistry, ELISA, etc.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across cultural boundaries and work harmoniously with diverse groups of students, faculty, and staff.
Demonstrated commitment to contribute to a safe work environment.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills, and/or Abilities
Gene cloning, siRNA mediated gene knockdown skill, animal surgery skills such as brain microinjection, in vivo gene transduction, telemetry transducer implantation
