The Department of Applied Physiology and Sport Management (APSM) within the Simmons School of Education and Human Development at Southern Methodist University (SMU) invites applications for a non-tenure track position at the Clinical Assistant or Clinical Associate Professor (#52859). This is a unique opportunity to join an innovative, interdisciplinary academic program. Creative energy, intellectual strength, a broad-ranging repertoire, and teaching interests are essential. The candidate selected will be expected to be a significant partner in connecting the Department of Applied Physiology and Sport Management to an increasingly diverse and globally connected community at the university and in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.
Responsibilities include teaching and service. The successful candidate will be responsible for a faculty teaching load of 4 courses or approximately 12 credit hours per semester including but not limited to: Applied Exercise Physiology, Functional Biomechanics, Biomechanics, Health Promotion Practice, Healthcare Policy, Fitness and Health Enterprise, Anatomy and Physiology Lab; maintaining office hours and an appropriate student-centered presence on campus; and participating in the development, growth and expansion of the Applied Physiology and Health Management specialization within the APSM program. This position may include teaching graduate courses in the Master of Science Health Promotion Management Program. Minimum required qualifications include: completed requirements for a doctoral or other terminal degree in Exercise Physiology, Human Physiology, Public Health, Health Promotion or Management or a related discipline as broadly defined by May 2024; expertise to teach courses at the undergraduate level across multiple physiology, biomechanics and exercise science classes; demonstrated potential as a teacher-scholar; and academic and/or community service. Applicants with advanced training in human performance, public health, health promotion or management, or medicine in addition to the life science disciplines all qualify for consideration.
Preferred qualifications include: earned doctorate degree in Exercise Physiology, Human Physiology, Public Health, Health Promotion or Management, Public, or other appropriate and closely related discipline; experience teaching undergraduate or graduate courses in Exercise Physiology, Biomechanics, Human Physiology, Health Promotion or Health Management; interest in making significant contributions to graduate programs; scholarly research; demonstrated service or collaborations within the field of health or exercise science.
