The Biomedical Sciences Department is one of eleven academic units in the McQueary College of Health and Human Services and has a human-focused emphasis in medical biosciences (McQueary College of Health and Human Services). The department offers undergraduate degree programs in Biomedical Sciences with options in Cell & Molecular Biology, Anatomy & Physiology, Human Health Sciences, Clinical Laboratory Sciences (Medical Technology), and a Master of Science program in Cell & Molecular Biology. Minors are offered in Human Life Sciences, Molecular Biology, and Exercise Biology. The department offers coursework that supports the programs in Physician Assistant Studies, Sports Medicine and Athletic Training, Occupational Therapy, Nurse Anesthesia, and Nursing. The department facilities provide an array of shared equipment, including tissue culture laboratories, a histology lab, fluorescence microscopes, and access to an electron microscopy facility. QUALIFICATIONS
Earned Doctoral degree in a Biological Science with a Human Physiology emphasis or an MD or DO or equivalent degree, ABD status considered. Physiology teaching experience at the college level is expected, as well as significant training and experience in hands-on physiological experiences with evidence of effective oral and written communication skills. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.
DUTIES
Teaching responsibilities will include human physiology instruction for undergraduate BMS majors and students in programs such as Nursing, Dietetics, and Sports Medicine as well as graduate courses in the BMS program. Opportunities may also exist for teaching anatomy, histology, and embryology at the undergraduate and graduate level. The position requires development of an active research program involving undergraduate and graduate (M.S.) students, student advisement, and engagement in departmental governance and community service. A publication record in peer-reviewed journals is necessary, as is the search for extramural funding to support research. Engagement in the university mission of public affairs by incorporating cultural competence, ethical leadership, and community engagement. Performance of other duties as assigned.
