The Movement Science program in the School of Kinesiology at the University of Michigan invites applications for a non-tenure track Clinical Assistant or Clinical Associate Professor position, ideally commencing in August 2026. We seek colleagues with exceptional experience in the field of exercise physiology with a concentration on either neuromuscular or cardiovascular physiology. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and mentoring through innovative and effective pedagogical approaches.
Successful candidates will be able to teach undergraduate core courses such as Exercise Physiology, Neuromuscular Physiology, Cardiovascular Physiology, and corresponding laboratory sections, as well as Research Methods and other related topics. Graduate-level teaching assignments will be based on the candidate's area of expertise and the program's specific needs. The ideal candidate will demonstrate innovative pedagogical approaches, foster experiential learning opportunities for students, mentor graduate student instructors (GSIs), and have prior experience developing or teaching laboratory-based and research-focused courses. Effort in this 9-month appointment consists of 75% teaching responsibilities and 25% engagement in administration, service, and scholarship over fall and winter terms. Administrative responsibilities will be based on program needs, as well as the candidate's expertise and prior experience. Engagement in professional scholarship and participation in departmental, university, and/or community service is expected. The selected candidate will participate in curricular developmental initiatives, attend faculty meetings, and serve on other school or campus committees. A competitive salary will be offered, commensurate with education, experience, and qualifications.
- Ph.D. in kinesiology or a related field. Candidates with a strong pedagogical, clinical, research, or industry background are encouraged to apply.
- Two or more years of teaching in higher education or employment in an applied or clinical setting is highly desirable.

- Preferred qualifications include:
- Instruction of upper-level exercise physiology, neuromuscular physiology or cardiovascular physiology, and research methods course content with innovative classroom lab experiences.
- Experience and skills serving as a course coordinator, training GSI's on lab protocols and procedures, providing oversight of course lab sections, maintaining an inventory of teaching lab supplies, pedagogical mentoring of GSI's curriculum development, contributing to new academic curricula, developing inclusive teaching initiatives, and collaborative research and scholarship.
