The Department of Biology at Indiana University Northwest invites applications for a full-time, 10-month, tenure-track position with summer assignments and associated stipend in accordance with programmatic need. The Assistant Professor of Biology will be an experienced biology scholar/teacher with a disciplinary research focus in anatomy, physiology or a related field. They should be committed to the success of a diverse body of students and have an active record of scholarship. Core responsibilities include overseeing and teaching the non-majors' human anatomy and physiology course series (PHSL-P 130, PHSL-P 261 and PHSL-P 262) as well as majors courses related to their area of expertise and as programmatic needs dictate; conducting disciplinary research; and participating in service activities. The Assistant Professor of Biology position is responsible for a 12-hour per semester teaching load with an expected productive program of research and scholarly publication supported by a reduction in teaching load. Active involvement in service to the department, campus, discipline, and the community is also expected. Required Qualifications: An earned Ph.D. in a biological or biomedical discipline closely related to anatomy and physiology by August 1, 2025. Candidates with a professional doctoral degree (e.g., M.D., D.O., etc.) are also encouraged to apply. Demonstrated ability to conduct research and/or creative activity in anatomy, physiology or a closely related field. Demonstrated experience teaching biology courses at the university level with anatomy and physiology as the area of focus. Experience with online college-level teaching.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience teaching a diverse student body and first-generation college students. Membership and engagement in academic and professional associations related to the discipline. Experience teaching human anatomy and physiology courses. Experience teaching or supervising human anatomy and physiology laboratories. A demonstrated record of applying for and receiving grant funding to support research activities. Experience in engaging or mentoring undergraduate students in laboratory-based research.
