The Department of Biology at the University of Richmond invites applications for the position of Teaching Faculty of Biology to begin in the 2026-2027 academic year. This is a full-time, 9-month, non-tenure-track, continuing position with benefits. The position includes opportunities for promotion to Senior Teaching Faculty after successful completion of a probationary period according to university policy. Expertise in physiology, anatomy or closely related field, demonstrated experience in teaching, and an interest in teaching undergraduates in a liberal arts setting are required. Applicants who have a doctoral degree by the time of appointment are strongly preferred.
The Department of Biology provides a broad biology education within the context of the liberal arts. We are committed to inclusive teaching practices and aim to give all students interested in biology the opportunity and skills necessary for long-term success. We seek a faculty colleague who shares our commitment to student-centered, inclusive undergraduate education. The successful candidate will teach a total of 4 sections (e.g., 2 lectures plus 2 labs) each fall and spring semester, with regular duties teaching our existing human physiology and non-cadaver human anatomy courses that primarily serve pre-health students. We anticipate opportunities for the candidate to teach other courses. In addition to teaching- related duties, the successful candidate will advise students and serve on department and/or university committees. For more information on the department and its programs, please visit https://biology.richmond.edu.
Applicants should apply online at https://jobs.richmond.edu and submit a curriculum vitae, cover letter, and a 2-3-page teaching statement. The teaching statement should detail their teaching approaches and commitment to educating a diverse student body through inclusive pedagogies. Evidence of teaching effectiveness, if available, may be submitted as a single attachment not to exceed 3 pages. Candidates for this position may be asked, at a later date, to provide the names and contact information for three references who will be asked to submit letters of recommendation. Review of applications will commence on January 9, 2026, and continue until the position is filled. Please contact Dr. Isaac Skromne (iskromne@richmond.edu) with any questions.
